Hola amigos!
We hope you are having a wonderful summer, we're starting to wind down here in the DR but we couldn't be happier with how things are going!
Liz and James took another trip to Haiti a few weeks ago to check in with Father Andre and to work on planning out next trip there! DOVE is excited to offer another group opportunity trip for the week of the United States Thanksgiving, November 19th - 26th and we would LOVE to have you join us!
Details are still being hammered out but it's time to start praying, fundraising and making things happen!
For more information contact tour volunteer coordinator, Melissa Bazely at mbazely@sympatico.ca - we cannot wait to get you signed up!
Love from the DR and Haiti,

Come to Haiti!
Hola Amigos!
We hope you are having a wonderful summer and staying cool wherever you are. It sure is a hot one here in the Dominican!
DOVE is so excited to announce that because of our partnership with the Haitian orphanage, we are planning a trip for volunteers to come along with DOVE and serve in Haiti!
Together, Father Andre and DOVE, are planning a trip from August 6th-14th for volunteers interested to come and stay in the newly opened orphanage, live among the children, decorate the home to feel more “cozy”, aid in any basic tasks with the children around the home, work on a small contruction project and above all, love on those children! That’s the thing they crave the most – and thing we’re most equipped to give!
The cost for the whole trip will be $1200 which will include a workshop day at the Youth Development Center in Puerto Plata along with a excursion vacation day, all transportation to and from Haiti, and in and around the orphanage, food for the trip, and other expenses. Extra personal spending money and the flight will not be included.
DOVE is so excited to get volunteers signed up and committed to go – we can’t wait to get started! To sign up or get more information contact Melissa Bazely at mbazely@sympatico.ca. Sign up today – space is limited!
We can't wait to hear from you!!

Moving Into Haiti!
Hola Amigos!
DOVE has started a new project in Cap Haitian, Haiti in May and is excited about coming efforts to aid Haiti and it's orphaned children.
This effort, combined with our current projects working with at-risk Haitian and Dominican children in the DR is a result of a new calling.
Father Andre, a Catholic priest and the founder of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Orphanage found Liz McKie, DOVE's founder, through contacts in the States and contacted her looking for any help or ideas. We had previously been looking to move into Haiti after the earthquake occurred months ago and when the idea of partnering with a newly opened orphanage came about, the organization moved forward. It was exactly what we had been praying for. God is so good!
Currently the orphanage is home to thirteen children with 3 more being welcomed this week and in the coming month. Father Andre and his staff of “house mothers” are very optimistic about the aid they are bringing to the Haitian people and say their new children have come from all across the island looking for homes. They’ve come from many cities to live in Cap Haitian and Father Andre says this home is a lifelong dream come true.
“I’m honored to finally be called Dad,” said Father Andre to some of our volunteers on our first visit; they were so excited to see him come in one day as they were outside on their new swing set playing. The children greet him saying “Papa,” meaning Daddy in French and he welcomes the title.
We currently runs a sponsorship program for the children in the Dominican. The program provides funding that buys food vouchers for the families, a school uniform to keep the children in school, supplies to run the club and other essential items for both the children and their families.
Our plans now are to implement a similar program for partnership with Father Andre and his new children’s home. Eventually all children will be sponsored and the money will go to similar needs including food for the home, clothing and shoes for the children, basic hygiene needs, furniture and toys, and other health preventions, treatments and immunizations.
We are currently planning volunteer trips for August and the rest of the year to visit Father Andre’s orphanage and serve in any way needed until the sponsorship program is successfully up and running. We already have many volunteers interested in going, but we're looking to get the trip as big as possible. We need all hands on deck!
If you are interested in coming along to Haiti, sponsoring a child, or even donating supplies please contact Melissa Bazley at mbazley@sympatico.ca. We would love to have your support and help!
We're so excited to see what God has in store for us as we move into helping Haiti!
